Advocate

By standing against anti-Asian racism, discrimination, and violence, we can help build more welcoming and peaceful communities where everyone has the opportunity to belong and thrive.

Take action

No one should face harassment or violence due to their background, ethnicity, or heritage. Instead, IU’s campus communities are stronger because of the vast diversity of identities and perspectives that make up our community culture.

Learn, engage, and act

There are many ways to learn about and celebrate Asian cultures, traditions, histories, and communities at IU, throughout Bloomington, and beyond. We’ve gathered fun and creative ways to get involved, along with books, podcasts, films, and other resources to help you learn and explore.

We hope these ideas inspire you to participate in programs and events near you, spark meaningful conversations about the histories and contributions of Asian communities, and encourage you to be an informed and engaged advocate for issues that affect Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.

Advocate on behalf of AAPIs

  • Report anti-Asian incidents
  • Denounce racial violence, racial injustice, and inequity
  • Investigate policies and practices that harm the well-being of Asian American and Pacific Islanders
  • Debunk stereotypes such as the “model minority.”
  • Include AAPIs in conversations about race.

Engage

  • Enroll in or audit an Asian American Studies course
  • Support and join Asian American and Pacific Islander organizations at IU
  • Host a conversation about an essay, article, or book review of fiction and nonfiction literature at the Asian Culture Center
  • Learn traditional Asian crafts including making origami, Hawaiian Ribbon Lei, and more.
  • Try cooking new Asian inspired cuisine and learn the stories behind the dish and spices. Would love to have you conduct a cooking demo at the ACC.
