A welcoming space for students

The Asian/Pacific American Thematic Community (APA-TC) brings together students from all majors, backgrounds, and interests who want to explore Asian/Pacific American identities, histories, cultures, and contemporary issues while building meaningful connections and a strong sense of belonging at Indiana University Bloomington.

Located in Teter Residence Hall and established in Fall 2020, the APA-TC is open to incoming and current undergraduate students. Residents can participate in academic, cultural, and social programs, explore contemporary issues in Asian America, build leadership skills, and connect with a supportive community that encourages personal and professional growth.

Opportunities for residents

  • Overnight retreat and workshop
    Retracing Our Roots
APA-TC residents receive priority access to “Retracing Our Roots,” an annual retreat hosted by the Asian Culture Center at Bradford Woods. Through reflection, discussion, and community building, participants explore identity, culture, and belonging while gaining a deeper understanding of themselves and others.
  • Community conversation series
    Lunch and learn
Connect with fellow students over lunch while engaging in conversations about identity, representation, culture, and issues impacting AAPI communities.
  • Community space
    Lounge
Relax, study, meet new friends, or join group discussions in the APA-TC lounge—a welcoming space designed for connection and community.

Together with guided leadership and a supportive residential environment, residents can explore how to be leaders for social issues on campus and in the surrounding Bloomington community.
