Think you need support? Disabilities come in all shapes and sizes and are not always visible from the outside. The Accessible Educational Services office is dedicated to ensuring that students with disabilities have the tools, support services, and resources that allow equal access and reasonable accommodations to be successful at IU. Stop by the LGBTQ+ Culture Center on Fridays for AES drop-in advising hours from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. to chat with an Access Coordinator about your options.

Students can access a variety of free mental health services through Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), including individual counseling, group counseling, workshops, support groups, and crisis support. Services are available to IUB students who have paid the Student Health Fee, and appointments can be scheduled by calling CAPS at 812-855-5711.

The LGBTQ+ Culture Center also partners with CAPS to offer an embedded counselor at the center every Monday from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Students interested in meeting with Mollibeth Penner, LHMCA, can schedule an appointment through CAPS and request to meet with her at the LGBTQ+ Culture Center. Additional counseling services are available through the School of Education’s Counseling and Wellness Clinic.

Positive Link offers free and confidential HIV testing in Room 101 of the LGBTQ+ Culture Center on Thursdays from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Testing is available weekly when classes are in session and on first and third Thursdays during the summer.

Additionally, during the school year, the Monroe County Health Department offers free chlamydia and gonorrhea testing on the third Thursday of every month at the same time and location.

The LGBTQ+ Culture Center also provides many free safer sex supplies, including various types of condoms, dental dams, and lubes, along with instructions for proper use. Supplies are offered free of charge. Interested students can find supplies near the back door of the Center, in the kitchenette.

The LGBTQ+ Culture Center offers a gender-affirming closet! People who are looking for clothing for everyday use or special occasions are welcome to try on clothes and take them home, no questions asked.

The closet provides free clothing for anyone who is interested. There are no requirements for gender identity/expresion, LGBTQ+ status, IU affiliation, or financial need. Clothes can be returned (washed and in good condition) if you don't need them, but you're also welcome to keep them.

Gender-inclusive restrooms are available in most IU buildings. IU's Queer Student Union has created a Google Map that can help you locate them.

If a restroom is missing from the map, or if information is inaccurate, please email iuqsu@iu.edu.

The LGBTQ+ Library offers an expansive collection of resources and materials for both research and entertainment purposes. The Library's searchable online catalog allows patrons to find materials by keyword, author, or title.

If there is a particular, book, film, or zine you'd like to see added to our collection, contact us to make a suggestion.

If you have questions or would like an individual or class resource list, our Library Coordinator is happy to assist. Please email us at glbtlib@iu.edu.

Taking care of your sexual health is easier than you think. You can get tested right on campus at the IU Student Health Center, or visit one of many local spots that offer free or low-cost testing. Most places also provide confidential services, safer sex supplies, and helpful info on prevention and treatment.

The Transition Toolkit Initiative is a project from the Queer Student Union's Advocacy Committee dedicated to increasing access to gender-affirming care materials and resources for all students. Through this program, the Queer Student Union is able to provide:

  • Binders*
  • Pocket bras
  • Breast forms*
  • TransTape*
  • Packers
  • STP packers

  • Makeup and skincare products**

*What we currently have in the closet.
**Makeup and skincare is located in the all-gender restroom downstairs.

Additionally, the Transition Toolkit Initiative aims to go across just materials and into skills. The QSU plans to host skill-building workshops around gender-affirming skills, like tailoring and makeup. More information coming soon.
