Health and well-being
Gender-affirming medical providers
Students from the Maurer School of Law, in partnership with Bloomington Pride, have curated a list of trans-affirming and Gender Affirming Care medical providers in the Bloomington and southern Indiana area.
Medical care
The Student Health Center offers LGBTQ+ inclusive care, including hormone replacement therapy (HRT), inclusive STI testing and sex organ exams, PrEP for HIV prevention, mental health counseling, and more!
Mental health support
Whether you're navigating everyday stress, exploring your identity, managing a mental health concern, or simply looking for someone to talk to, support is available. IU offers both in-person and virtual counseling options, making it easier to find care that fits your needs, schedule, and preferences.
- In-person, short-term counseling: Need support with a challenging situation, increased stress, or a sudden life change? Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides free short-term counseling for students who have paid the Student Health Fee. Students can also participate in group counseling and workshops, and CAPS staff can help connect you with additional resources or long-term care when needed.
- Online, longer-term counseling: Looking for more flexibility or ongoing support? Through TimelyCare, IU students living in the United States have access to free, 24/7 emotional support and scheduled virtual counseling appointments. With a diverse network of licensed counselors and therapists, you can find a provider who aligns with your preferences, identity, and needs—all from wherever you are.
Physical health
Staying active can support both your physical and mental well-being. Through IU Recreational Sports, you'll find plenty of ways to move, including state-of-the-art fitness facilities, group exercise classes, intramural sports, outdoor adventures, and personal training. Best of all, most programs and services are included for students who pay the Student Activity Fee.
Looking for a more inclusive way to get involved? Intramural Sports allows students to participate without gender-based roster requirements, and all recreational sports leagues have policies that support transgender and nonbinary student participation. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or just trying something new, there's a place for you.
STI testing
The LGBTQ+ Culture Center, in partnership with Positive Link and the Monroe County Health Department, offers free HIV testing each week and free chlamydia & gonhorrea testing each month. These are open to any students, staff, faculty, or community members who are interested.
